Where we go depends on the weather on the day, usually, if the wind is calm, under 15knts, we fish the inshore reefs but if it’s too windy for that we fish the estuary system and river mouth, (Dickson’s Inlet). If you choose the private charter option you have control over where you go providing weather conditions allow.
On our full-day charters, we can head to the outer reefs: Batt, Tounge, Satelite to name a few, and is approx. 1hr travel time.
Inshore reefs; Wentworth, Korea, Yule, Alexandra are a max travel distance of approx. 8 miles, or 15 mins, from Port Douglas.

When fishing on the in-shore reefs (half day charters) we are targeting coral trout, Spanish mackerel, nannygai, grassy emperor, cobia etc.
When fishing the estuary we are targeting mangrove jack, finger-mark, grassy emperor, bream, flathead, grunter etc. and Barramundi in season (season closed between 1st Nov – 1st Feb each year).
Full day charters to the outer reef can target GT’s, Spanish mackerel, tuna and other large pelagic species. Reefs are; Batt, Tounge, Satelite and are approx 1 hr travel time each way.
-
There are Barramundi in Dicksons inlet and we do catch them. You are more likely to catch barra during the warmer months as they like the warmer water temperature. (Note; season closed between 1st Nov – 1st Feb each year). Barramundi is catch and release only.
-
- Any reef species you catch that are legal in size and good eating can be taken home.
- We encourage catch and release in the estuary system and sustainable fishing.
-
The crew will gut and clean your fish however they cannot fillet it in-case fisheries pull them over and need to check sizing. If you would like your fish filleted we can point you in the direction of local businesses who will fillet your fish for you.
-
Yes, ask our friendly crew and they will point you in the direction of local restaurants that will cook your fish for you. The Yacht Club and most resort restaurants will do this for you if approached prior.

On share charters, we fish with live and frozen bait, mainly bottom bashing. On private charters, we also provide a large range of lures for flicking, trolling, popping and jigging.
-
Yes, this tour is very suitable for kids and families. The boat has very high sides so is very safe for children and the guides are very helpful. We also have special kids rods on-board.
Kids under the age of 5 are probably best on a private charter.

There is no difference between fishing in the morning or afternoon. Sometimes the wind is calmer in the mornings, so if guests are wondering about the weather we suggest booking the morning. A good movement in tide also makes for good fishing (mainly in the estuary), some say ‘the better the run the more fun’. The push in and push out of the tide creates pressure points where bait will gather which attracts predators.

We do take fly fishing charters but don’t supply the gear. We can take fly fishing on the reef or in the estuary but guests must provide all their own gear. (Private Charter only)
-
We can take up to 12 pax on the two boats. With big groups like this the boats can stick together for the duration of the charter. The skippers often get a bit of friendly competition going which always results in a lot of laughs.
